Tyner Rushing, a television, film, and commercial actor, is known for her roles in Salem, One Mississippi, and The Resident. She grew up in Semmes, AL, a small town outside of Mobile. Raised by plant nursery owner parents, Ralph Carl Rushing and Patti Tyner Rushing, Tyner, though generally found barefoot tending to plants and running with dogs, began performing at the age of 3 when her mom introduced her to dance. Singing followed a few years later when she was 7. Tyner continued down the performance path as a teenager. She taught ballet, tap and jazz to youngsters in exchange for dance lessons and performed voice recitals yearly. She received a performance scholarship at the liberal arts school, Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, AL. After college, Tyner performed with professional musical theater companies. She spent a year touring the west coast with California Theater Center and moved to San Francisco where she performed in Babes In Arms (42nd Street Moon), Swing! (Cabrillo Stage), and La Cage Aux Folles (Broadway By the Bay). Tyner now resides in Atlanta with her mighty feline sidekick, Smokey Robinson.
