Todd G. Shipley was born and raised in Reno, Nevada where he served 25 years as a police officer, retiring as a Senior Detective Sergeant. He started and managed Nevada's first cybercrime unit. After leaving the Reno, Nevada Police Department he was the Director of Systems Security and High Tech Crime Prevention Training for SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, where he oversaw a national program that provided expert technical assistance and training to local, state, and federal justice agencies on successfully conducting high-technology computer crimes investigations. In 2007, he formed Vere Software, a company dedicated to developing tools to aid in the investigation of online crime. He was the primary designer of the patented software "WebCase". Mr. Shipley is an expert in cybercrime and digital forensics. He has also authored works regarding cybercrime, most recently as co-author of Investigating Internet Crimes: An introduction to Solving Crimes in Cyberspace.
