Merritt was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her career in film, dance and music spans over 20 years, though her professional acting career began at age ten working regionally in TV and Film. Merritt can be seen in season 3 of USA's "Queen of the South" and season 1 of AMC's "The Son"- in Indigenous American roles that support the leads of the shows including Alice Braga, Zahn McClarnon and Elizabeth Frances. Merritt is of Native and African- American decent. She is a proud multi-cultural actor. Her favorite place to exist in the American mediascape is one where she helps tell stories from unheard and hushed voices. She is an active member of the tribal film community, working in and supporting several Native produced projects and films, some of which are associated with the Choctaw Nation. Merritt is a supporter of the Tribal Film Festival. She was recognized by the Nollywood and African Film Critics' Association (a.k.a. The African Oscars) as a "Most Promising Actress" nominee during the 2014 awards season. The highlight of her early years was when she was cast by Cameron Crowe in his 2005 romantic tragicomedy, "Elizabethtown". Merritt shared a small scene with lead actor Orlando Bloom, earning her SAG eligibility. Since graduating with honors and a degree in Art and Performance from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2014, her entire focus has been on driving her career to new heights. She co-stared as late "The Voice" singer Christina Grimmie's best friend in her final music video series, "The Ballad of Jessica Blue". She refers to this experience as the most bitter sweet as it was marked by the tragic death of Grimmie months before the worldwide release of the series. Having the pleasure of working with Grimmie, sharing scenes, dance rehearsal and love from amazing fans is a treasured memory that lives on in her heart. She looks forward to cultivating her place and voice within American activism, especially towards awareness of domestic violence against Native women. This and the general health and growth of under-served communities are causes she is very passionate about. When not on set or preparing for the next role, she loves to travel and spend time in multiple cities in the states throughout the year.
