Caetano Gotardo was born in Brazil in 1981 and studied cinema at the University of São Paulo from 1999 to 2003. He directed eight short films, including "Matéria", "O menino japonês" and "Areia". All of them were screened and awarded in many festivals in Brazil and abroad (including the opening of Critics' Week in Cannes 2008). In October 2013, there was a special screening of all of his short films at the French Cinematheque. "O que se move" (The Moving Creatures/ Celui que nous laisserons), his first feature film, was selected for a diversity of festivals around the world and received prizes like the ones for best film in Lakino (Germany), Semana dos Realizadores (Brazil) and Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival (USA). The film was released in Brazil and France in 2013. Caetano is a member of Filmes do Caixote, a group of young Brazilian filmmakers who work together constantly. He edited "Trabalhar Cansa" (Hard Labor), the first feature film directed by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra, selected for Un Certain Regard in Cannes 2011. In 2014, Caetano took part of the prestigious Cinéfondation Residence, in Paris, for filmmakers developing their first or second feature film. He also works with theater as writer, director and actor, and he published a poetry book.
