Born and raised in a broken, mixed Irish and Portuguese household provided the perfect beginnings for Derek's future career. Having what some would call "a unique personality" and the natural ability to make people laugh, he was known as a class clown. Derek would study greats like Robin Williams, Jim Carrey and George Carlin to further hone his skills. "I wouldn't always understand the meaning of their punchlines or things like that until I was much older, but they all had this physical presence and charisma that resonated with the audience." As the years went on, Derek was known as "the funny friend" in all his circles. Derek has performed in front of live audiences involving mediums from live music and competitive martial arts, then to stand up comedy which opened the doors to stage and film acting. Even though Derek has been performing in front of crowds since 2002; it wasn't until 2012 where Derek decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Derek has worked stages, clubs, colleges and casinos all over North East opening for National Comics like Jim Gaffigan, David Koechner, SNL's Chris Katan and Roy Woods Jr.; as well as landing an appearance in the reboot of Ghostbusters.
