Tom Ficara began producing and distributing programming while at Carson Newman (TN) College. In the 1970's he produced and syndicated exclusively for the fledgling cable TV business. In 1976, in partnership with Young and Rubicam, he produced and distributed the first live national commercial cablecast, a World Hockey Association game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Birmingham Bulls. In 1990, he acquired the TVS Television Network, the fourth oldest commercial broadcast TV network in the USA. In 1997 he produced and distributed the 30th Anniversary of the Whisky A Go Go in partnership with Rolling Stone Magazine. It was the first attempt at a worldwide IPTV live telecast.
