Born in Chicago, Illinois. He liked acting from a young age but did not pursue it as a career until he was in his twenties. A happy accident landed him a job working behind the scenes on The Dark Knight which ultimately moved him to L.A. in 2007. He left the job shortly before post production concluded and made the decision to pursue the dream full time. In 2015 he married the love of his life. Later that year they moved to Chicago with their newborn son Oliver in order to be closer to John's family. His wife Mara is a California girl so they still spend quite a bit of time there.
