Larsen has worked as composer on over thirty independent and studio feature films. His recent feature Big Shots (2001) premiered at Cannes. With a background as a young pianist in Europe, Carter Larsen has made his name conducting and performing in over 400 concerts to critical acclaim. He has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra as soloist, with television appearances and broadcasts on BBC television and Europe's largest FM stations. Larsen's video "Appassionato" can be seen regularly on national cable television, PBS and the Classic Arts Showcase. Born in San Francisco, Larsen studied at the city's Conservatory of Music with composer John Adams. He subsequently worked with Peter Feuchtwanger in London, as well as Vlado Perlemuter in Paris. In 1994, Larsen established himself as a serious composer, premiering four original compositions alongside the classics, which were broadcast on Classic FM's prestigious "Platform Live" from the UK. He became a favorite with audiences at London's popular Kenwood Concerts, and established himself as a successful recording artist, with CDs including Saint-Saens, Mendelssohn, Granados, Liszt, Debussy, Chopin and Beethoven among others, as well as with film music and several recordings of his own original music. Carter Larsen has been asked to compose music for a variety of prestigious films, including Paramount's "Star Trek". He also scored original music for several Hollywood productions including "Scarecrow" and "Pierced Heart". Larsen's passion for scoring film and television manifests in his films, The Innocents Mission (2000) and "Love Bytes" which premiered at Sundance 2001. In a recent review of his original music at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, London critic Christopher Wood proclaims, "Carter Larsen is the first of the New Romantics. Written in a fluid, tonal and highly cinematic style, every sweep of the hands seemed to conjure yet more visual and emotional imagery.
