Shô Ikushima

Japanese actor, Sho Ikushima, was born in July 28th 1985 in Tokyo. His father is a famous Japanese broadcaster, Hiroshi Ikushima, and his brother, Yûki Ikushima, is also an actor in Japan. Ikushima has worked in the U.S., Europe, and Japan as an actor and a dancer. He started out his career as a dancer. At the age of 15, he moved to California to attend the Idyllwild Arts Academy where he started dancing. He continued his study in dance at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. After graduation, he gained O-1 artist VISA in the U.S. and worked as a free lance contemporary dancer. One of the choreographer he worked with in NY is Pavel Zustiak, who has won 2015 Juried Bessie Award. His dance career took him to Europe, receiving danceWEB Scholarship in Vienna, Austria, and working as a soloist at the State Theater Kassel in Germany under the direction of Johannes Wieland. After returning to Japan, Ikushima focused more on acting while continuing working as a dancer and a choreographer. He received a grant called Odoriniikuze, and created a dance solo and toured four cities in Japan. Ikushima also worked with a very famous musical director, Amon Miyamotoin the musical, Two Gentlemen of Verona. As an actor, he has worked a number of times with Yukihiko Tsutsumi, one of the most well-known Japanese film director, and Kesennuma Voices (2012), their documentary series about the Great East Japan Earthquake, has won the first Satellite TV Original Drama Award in 2012. Ikushima has been involved with social activities by producing dance projects in Tohoku Region of Japan, the disaster stricken area since 2011 along with the documentary series.
