Tom Gibney was a fixture behind the news desk at CTV in Toronto beginning in the early 1970s. He stepped down as the anchor of CFTO News in April 2001, but continued to periodically appear as a substitute anchor on CTV's flagship station in Toronto until his retirement in November 2007. Gibney's career spanned the modern era of local TV news -- from typewriters and film to computers, satellites and live trucks and into the cutting edge technology that brings viewers the news today. For nearly forty years, Gibney provided viewers with a calm, reassuring presence whenever major stories would break. Gibney's most notable foray into acting was a bit part as the announcer on "The Howard Beale Show," seen in Sidney Lumet's film Network (1976). The film was shot on location at CFTO-TV's Toronto headquarters. - IMDb Mini Biography By: John Wilson
