Kimura Tae was born in Tokyo. She was a member of the drama club at her junior high school, but enjoyed being a spectator more than being on stage. When in high school she saw actress Kirin Kiki on TV in Daidoroko No Sejyo and was inspired to become an actress. She has been active in the entertainment industry since 1990 with roles in theatre, but two years later at twenty-one her father died so she took up many part-time jobs including working in cafes, hotels and restaurants. While at university she had a role in Sailor Moon on stage. Her acting career continued and picked up with roles including Hana And Alice with Aoi Yu in 2004 (where her character was a ballet teacher) and Hotaru No Hikari with Ayase Haruka in 2010. Her earlier and first major roles, however, were in the horror serials Ringu and Rasen where she played the role of Sadako. She married in 2005 and refreshingly for a Japanese actress not to another celebrity. Her husband is a Dentsu advertisement agency employee. Upon being asked out she had meant to reject the advance when mistakenly she blurted out a question asking whether he would be OK with her! They had met when she was working for a commercial. She announced she is pregnant in August 2007 and gave birth in February 23, 2008. She won the award for Best Actress at the 32nd Japan Academy Prize for Gururi No Koto in 2009. This was simultaneously her first appearance and return following her pregnancy. Her hobbies include ballet, jazz and traditional dancing. She is also a Vegetable sommelier, which suggests she is an expert in vegetables and serving them. She is managed by Yougo Office.
