Josh Schell

Josh Schell was born in San Francisco, CA, to Ellen Sheffield (Phelps), a registered nurse, and Donald Joseph Schell, an Episcopal priest. He began studying acting at the American Conservatory Theater's Young Conservatory, and went on to earn a BFA in acting from the University of Southern California. After graduating from USC, he returned to the Bay Area and made his professional debut in the west coast premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's In the Red and Brown Water. In 2012, he was named "Best Actor" by SF Weekly for his work in Bay Area theater. The following year he was cast in The Whistler (2013), a short thriller directed by Bryce McGuire, which has gone on to accumulate over 400K views on YouTube. In 2014, he was cast in For the Coyotes (2015), an indie feature directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Eric Daniel Metzgar. For the Coyotes premiered at the Bend Film Festival, and was called "cinematic proof that thoughtful filmmaking doesn't have a price tag" by the San Francisco Chronicle. In 2016, he performed in two critically acclaimed Bay Area theater productions: The Nether by Jennifer Haley, which was called "taut, unforgiving" and "impeccably acted" by the San Francisco Chronicle; and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee, which was called "a scorching revival" by the Huffington Post.
