Deborah Kay Hooker was born and raised in San Antonio Texas and her creative talents run deep. Surrounded by a successful artist family, her baton twirling/choreographer grandmother, Pat Hooker, invented the thin shafted baton, now the standard for majorettes, as well as creating the pre-Rockettes, famous "Dixie Darlings," debuting on the Ed Sullivan Show. Her grandfather, Vernon Hooker, was an accomplished band master performing with such greats as Harry James and John Phillip Sousa. Her father was a musician and her actress mother was Miss Teen America, the late Sharon Kay Hinshaw Hooker. Her aunt is Beth Hooker, a professional singer/songwriter, actress, having recorded/toured singing with Don Henley, Billy Joel, Elton John, and Sting, to name a few. Her brother, Robert Hooker, is an actor who has worked with such greats as Robert Downy Jr., Michael A. Hall, Sissy Spacek, and Randy Travis. Her cousin is singer/songwriter, Jonathan George, who owns JG Entertainment in CA and Hollywood Launch in Dallas Texas. Deborah Kay is a natural at capturing the spot light, having begun as a child winning pageants and doing plays. She studied acting at Schreiner College in Kerrville and was first introduced to film acting while attending the University of North Texas, in Denton, where she was cast in the football comedy, "Necessary Roughness." After graduation, Deborah Kay acted in films in and around Dallas Texas, such as "Fatal Deception," starring Helena Bonham Carter. She was also cast in several episodes of Chuck Norris's "Walker TX Ranger." In 1996 she played the role of "Mum" in Sammo Hung's "Once Upon A Time in China and America." The film starred Jet Li, Jeff Wolfe, and TJ Storm. After pausing for several years to raise her children, Deborah Kay returned to her acting career with the perfect comedic role in Robert Dahlem's "Hidden in the Heart of Texas. She says, "It was a hilarious education surrounded by the brilliance of comedians, Kurt Basa and Greg Wilson." She was recently praised, showing her professional range as an actress, in the challenging role of June, a cruel and self-centered mother, in B.J. Lewis's "Party Girl." She has currently been cast as Carolanne, in Brian Child's horror movie, "Hell of a Night," and another film, "When the Storm God Rides" produced by Thomas E Kelly and Kimber Eastwood. Here she is looking forward to capturing the complexities of Big Nose Kate, otherwise known as the historian, Kate Elder, and Doc Holiday's real life common law wife. Deborah Kay Hooker feels she is re-entering the film acting industry with a professional attitude and good focus. "Life experiences add such layers for us to draw from and I look forward to challenging myself, portraying new and interesting characters." - IMDb Mini Biography By: Beth Hooker
