Jay retired from the U.S. Army in October 2007 with 21 years of distinguished service culminating with the award of the Legion of Merit. His service as a broadcast journalist brought him numerous Department of Defense awards for excellence including Military Photographer of the Year for Motion Media. He has also won an Emmy award for co-producing and co-hosting the 2009 Congressional Medal of Honor Society annual convention live broadcast from Soldier Field. He is a Chicago-trained actor and voice-over talent residing in South Carolina. He moved to Charleston, SC, to serve as the on-site military adviser to the then #1 Lifetime TV drama Army Wives. He has also been seen on stage as Jim Bono In "Fences" at Charleston's South of Broadway Theater which garnered him an Outstanding Supporting Actor Award from the League of Charleston Theaters. Jay's first feature film role was as Pastor Curtis Hartman in the critically acclaimed independent film The Last Soul on a Summer Night, one of Roger Ebert's 10 best art films of 2010. Jay holds a Masters in Public Administration from American Military University, is a life member of the Noncommissioned Officers Association, and an Operation Desert Storm vet. He continues to serve via his unwavering support of the USO of Illinois acting as Master of Ceremony for their annual gala. Jay DeVon Johnson is the proud father of two daughters from his first marriage.
